Firstly I got an email asking if I would like to try out Vichy Dermablend fluid foundation and finishing powder, which my response was a very enthusiastic “yes please, I have been using your products for years and love them!”.
The second offering was from Debenhams who invited me down to their SS16 Beauty Press Show where I got to see the latest releases from some of my favourite brands including Urban Decay, Make Up For Ever, Yves Saint Laurent and the Balm. Not only did I have a lovely afternoon talking all things makeup with the artists but was also gifted some new beauty bits to try out.
Despite these wonderful surprise additions to my beauty collection I simply could not help also picking up a few bits from NYX when I put in my big Boots travel order of exciting things like sun tan lotion and insect repellent.
So although I made a few sneaky purchases, comparatively I did an excellent job at keeping my make-up addiction at bay in April, so here are my top 5 of the month.
YSL Black Opium*
After working in fragrance I am super fussy about what scents I will wear and very few perfume launches excite me; that was until this glam rock badass hit the beauty hall shelves. Initially it was the black glitter packaging which caught my eye and I thought even if I didn’t like the smell it would be a great overpriced ornament.
After sampling it on my skin I fell in love with the mixture of tough black coffee, with musky white florals and sweat vanilla.
With its strange mix of aromas it’s not a fragrance for everyone, but I love how it gives off such a heavy, yet feminine, rock vibe.
Vichy Dermablend Fluid Corrective Foundation*
I don’t want to give too much away on this one as I have a full tutorial on my YouTube channel and review coming up in the next couple if weeks, but what I will tell you is that this is one of my absolute go-to foundations.
It is high coverage yet light in texture, stays put all day and gave me confidence at a time when my skin was at an all time low.
NYX Lip Lingerie in Embellished
To me lingerie conjurers up thoughts of wedgies, spanks and constricting bras, but since NYX has not let me down with a product yet I couldn’t resist picking up one of their new liquid lipsticks when it flashed up on the Boots homepage.
Despite the fact the the colour looks nothing like it does on the website (will someone please bring the Boots site into modern times), this shade is now one of my new go-tos for day or night. Purple can often look a little vampy, but this cool tone makes it perfect for a softer Spring look or to complement a smoky eye in the evening.
The formula is light but packs a punch with pigment, though its matte finish can leave lips slightly dry so I would make sure your lips are hydrated before application. This liquid lipstick may not have the longevity of some of its other pricer contenders but it lasts though a coffee without having to reapply, which works for me. With a colour range from sweet cinnamon, pink, chocolate brown, warm red and classic nudes I have a feeling this will not be the first of these bargain liquid lipstick in my collection.
NYX Eyebrow Gel in Brunette
When I first heard Em Ford say this was a contender for the Anastasia Beverley Hill’s Brow Pomade I thought surely not, but I have been won over.
This waterproof gel is naturally thinner in texture than a pomade, but draws on like a dream and its waterproof formula does not budge all day.
I also really like the colour range and found the brunette to be a good match, unlike many of the other drug store options I have tried which all seem to have a bit of a red tinge. The only downside to this one is you can’t just simply dip the brush in like the Brow Pomade pot which means I often go to work with a brow splodge on my hand that looks like poo, but apart from that this is a purse and brow friendly purchase.
theBalm Nudetude eye shadow palette*
Another one that not only have I rediscovered but I am also going to tease you with as I have a full review, tutorial and give-away coming very soon, so make sure you follow along to be in with a chance of getting your hands on one of these stunning palettes.
All products with * were press samples but that does not mean I love them any less than if I paid for them. I share my honest views on products whether they were given to me or I reached the limit on my credit card paying for them.
What have you guys been loving in April?
