Over the past few years I have been invited to more than my fair share of weddings. When that save the date drops through my letter box I always feel incredibly privileged that our friends want me to share their special day with them and, of course, excited for a fabulous party (piss up).
As the big day approaches the realisation that I will need to find clothes fitting for the grand event sets in and I begin to dread the entire day. Weddings are traditionally pretty and glamours which are not really words that fit with my signature style.
You would think that with the amount of weddings I have been too I would have something suitable in my wardrobe, but thanks to social media I never feel like I can wear the same dress twice. This leads to spending hours scrolling through websites and scouring the high street for dresses that are both appropriate and budget friendly. Feeling the pressure to look like a ‘proper’ wedding guest I always end up buying colourful or floral dresses that I then take back. Most of these outfits are perfectly lovely and look nice on but the problem is I just don’t feel comfortable in something that does not represent my style.
After lots of trial and error, and wasting money on dresses that I felt awkward in, I think I have finally found a balance between finding something that I am confident wearing without looking like I am off to a funeral. I know that there must be other goths at heart out there who find the prospect of wedding guest shopping a nightmare (not in a good way), so in this video are some of my top picks to keep it dark at fancy events.
