I used to be a serial shopper before moving to London; I than had to minimise my wardrobe size, and also dramatically cut my spending to fit in with my new expensive big city lifestyle. I thought that this would be a nightmare, but actually having fewer options has decreased the amount of outfit related freak out when getting ready. Being comparatively good at not spending over the past 5 years meant that my basics had gotten worn out and desperately needed replaced.
Holey clothes in the bin, I made the always stressful trip into Oxford Street. Not feeling particularly flush having just booked another trip to New York, I made a b-line for the always reliable H&M. I normally have some sort of meltdown shopping in central London, however the newly refurbished store right next to Oxford Circus tube station made the experience so much easier than normal, with high ceilings, 5 floors, plenty of fitting rooms and some incredibly helpful floor staff it was actually enjoyable.
Autumn/Winter is by far my favourite season for clothing and is usually when I have a splurge. Once again H&M did not disappoint with plenty of black, leather and faux fur items to fit in with my rock inspired aesthetic. Though I buy the occasional stand out ‘fashion’ piece I feel most confident in staple, oversized t-shirts and skinny jeans, so that is what I stuck with.
One of the things that I love about H&M is that they always have these basic items in stock but use subtle detailing to make them fashion forward, yet not so stand out that they can’t be worn out with the current season. This is just a small overview of what is in store RIGHT NOW but watch this space for outfit posts to see how I style my new purchases.
