I don’t know if it’s because I am a maker but I love a good taproom, there’s something so special about being right next to where something is actually made. Luckily for me there are some excellent craft beer breweries right on my Edinburgh doorstep and, to top it off, they are all dog friendly — so my emotional support border collie can come too.
Newbarns Brewery and Taproom
Gives the most cozy pub vibes of all the taprooms with its dark interior and beer garden. Newbarns is always bustling and filled with dogs (which is why it’s one of our most frequented spots). They of course have a great selection of beers and the staff are more than happy to help with recommendations. They don’t have food, but their crisp menu is stellar.

Bellfield Brewery
Gluten free beers so good that us non gluten free craft beer guzzlers love them! The taproom and beer garden is a great space to gather and is one we’ve celebrated a few birthdays in. They also host a pop up kitchen so there is an ever changing variety of food on offer, making each visit a little different.

Campervan Brewery Taproom
The recently expanded taproom is an open, breezy space with both inside and outside seating options. Campervan was born from love of adventure which is now represented in their super cool rebrand. Being van owners ourselves we were of course immediately drawn to Campervan, but they are more than just cool branding with brilliant beers to back it up.

Moonwake Beer Co Brewery and Taproom
A brewery tucked away on the shores of Leith, Moonwake gives that real taproom vibe with their giant tanks being front and centre. Moonwake are such a part of the creative community in Edinburgh, sponsoring exhibitions at Coburg House Art Studios (my art studio) and beyond. They also collaborate with artists and other brewers to create cans as unique as their brews as well as hosting events including makers markets and even a music festival. Moonwake always has something going on.
